The “Hot Button” series by Nicole O’Dell is comprised of
four books on topics that are relevant to today’s teen. The editions include Internet
Edition, Drug Edition, Dating Edition, and Sexuality Edition. Each book covers
the topic in full detail, offering parents advice for preventing problems and
also advice for helping a teen who has already strayed. Each book also includes
a section for prayer, repentance, and reparation.
As a parent of a soon-to-be teenager, I feel these books are
very informative. The topics are timely and parents in all walks of life can
learn something from the information presented. As a Catholic, I found these
books to be extremely “evangelical” in nature but only had a problem with one
of the books. In the Sexuality Edition, the author stresses abstinence before
marriage but condones the use of birth control within the confines of marriage
and in teenagers for “reasons other than to prevent pregnancy”. Some Catholics
and most Protestants support this belief but the Catholic Church teaching is
against the use of birth control completely. Other than this issue, the books
are relatively safe for a Catholic to read and apply without concern for going
against Catholic teaching.
I received this book free of charge in exchange for my
honest review
