Independance Day!

We went to the fireworks last night. It was a lot of fun and the kids loved it. As I watched the show, I almost grrew teary eyed just imagining what it was like for people such as Francis Scott Key who wrote the Star Spangled Banner. "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there." I could see the rockets and the bomb fire and feel the pride of knowing that we were going to win the war!

Today we wore our Immaculate Heart of Mary t-shirts. They turned out pretty awesome! I let the boys dye thier own shirts and they did a fantastic job. The Immaculate Heart of Mary is the "Patron Saint" of the state of Georgia, where we reside. With the help of the creative blogger, Lacy of Catholic Icing, I used some grey fabric paint to make the sword and I left off the flowers. We also used the colors red white and blue to, of course, represent the colors of the American Flag. What a wonderful way to incorporate our Catholic faith with patriotism.

I submitted my shirt craft for Made by You Monday!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my four days of Independance Day!

Busy Week

Well, as soon as I start doing things like I want to do them, the surprises pop up!

Yesterday was supposed to be our second day of 4 days of Independance Day activities. I had everything ready to go. I logged into facebook and there was an urgent request for my help. I was asked to be in a video that will be shown to expectant mothers who want to abort thier babies. I was very glad to help. It took a while because of some technical problems but the boys colored some really cute Christian coloring pages while we waited. Also, my co-worker/friend had a new grandson born yesterday after many complications. He is doing well... another blessing!

Today was our Immaculate Heart Tie Dye activity. Luckily I started early! We dyed the shirts before heading to the grocery store to get some things to cookout tomorrow. While we were in the store, my cell phone rang. My little cousins from Maine were here and wanting to visit! What a wonderful surprise!

Now we are planning to attend the Independance Day Fireworks soon and when I get home, I will rinse and wash our shirts for tomorrow! It has been a busy week but also a week full of blessings! Praise God that we live in a free country! Praise Him that we can help to fight abortion! Praise Him for family!

Pictures and more activities tomorrow!

Mount up With Wings Like Eagles

The Eagle is the American symbol! Did you know that when the mother teaches the eaglets to fly by pushing them out of the nest (that rests atop a tall crag) and allows them to fall all the way down until they think they are doomed. Whoosh, the momma eagle flys under the eaglet and catches it before it falls. This is what the forefathers (and my great grandfather, John Hart) wanted our country to do for it's people!!

I found a beautiful Eagle craft in my July issue of FamilyFun Magazine and knew that I had to incorporate this into our four day Independance Day Celebration! It was presented as a t-shirt idea but we made it into a construction paper craft.

All you have to do is paint one hand brown, press it onto the paper horizontally. Then press it horizontally the other way so that the palms touch. We used the other hand for the white paint. We painted only three middle fingers white and pressed them vertically under the palm prints. Then, we painted our palms white and pressed them vertically to form the head. I would suggest doing something different for the head. I then painted a beak with yellow paint and glued a wiggly eye to the head.

I wanted this to be a Christian craft so I added this great "Eagle" bible verse:

Isaiah 40:31
Yet those who wait for the Lord
will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

I printed it out and glued it to the eagle pictures. I originally wanted to write it onto the eagle but our brown was a little darker than what I thought it would be.

Please check back to see what else we do for our 4 day celebration!
