I think that this CD is unique and very useful. It even has the NEW Mass Responses and Latin Prayers! I tthink that all Catholic parents should own a copy. SFA Days 2 and 3

Okay, I haven't been posting as I planned. I actually haven't done anything as planned. We tried having VBS in the morning on day 2 and it was chaos as they were ready to play thier own games before we ever had a chance to watch all of the videos. On day 3, we did VBS in the evening before bed. It was a little better but we never had time to make our snack because bed time came and went while we were assembling the awesome prayer books. Here is what we did:

On day 2, the activity was "Stained Glass Windows". I took the photos using my phone again so they are a little hard to make out. Shawn's is a yellow cross and Jacob's is a colorful cross within a colorful background so the cross is "hiding". Try to find it...

On day 3, we created some very nice prayer books. Considering I bought 1 activity book and copied it for each of the boys, I used a lot of color ink to print these beautiful graphics. I decided that I wanted the books to be something that the boys can use so I laminated the pages at the local teacher support center and I also made the covers from Fun Foam. I buy the fun foam from the Dollar Tree everytime they have it. Here are the FANTASTIC results:

Here are the Fun Foam covers. They cost mere pennies because I took an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet and folded it in half and then punched holes in it. Easy!

Each boy worked on his book and they all look a little different. Toad is 4 years old and he cut the pictures out himself. Straight lines are not too hard for him. Also, the St Michael prayer was the boys favorite because he beats up all the bad guys! lol

Jacob glued his a little different then Shawn and Toad I. I really loved this "Guardian Angel Prayer" in the center of his book.

Shawn made his book with no help at all. We worked together to decide which picture went with which prayer.

Summer Faith Adventure Day 1

Today was the first day of a week of fun at-home Vacation Bible School! First we watched the videos about how David was originally chosen to become King. The King, in turn, gives the keys to the kingdom to the "Master of the Palace" who is responsible for making sure that the King's work is carried out. We learned that Jesus gave the "keys to the kingdom" to Peter, the first Pope. We then created Pope Miters for the boys to wear! My 3 year old was distracted early and never made a Miter but the other two boys had a lot of fun creating thiers!

Then we plated a game called "Child of God". The "it" person asks someone "Are you a child of God" and the person must answer "Yes I am a child of God and I want to go to Heaven" without laughing! Here are the results of trying that one!

The last thing we did was make "keys and crowns cookies". I used a premade mix that only required butter and water to make this step a little simpler. If I had only older children, I think that the "made from scratch" version would have been perfect.

I saw this Baptism craft and thought that it would work perfectly along with the Baptism theme for todays SFA. We didn't have time (or energy) for this today but I plan to add it in later this week.

PS my camera is acting silly lately so I had to use my phone to take pictures! That's why they are a little blurry...

Summer Faith Adventure starts tomorrow!

I am really excited! The Holy Heroes Summer Faith Adventure begins tomorrow! I have a few errands to run in the mornning so I am planning to do our first session in the afternoon. The rest of the week I have planned to work on in the morning.
I have the Holy Heroes Activity booklet and CD. I copied the pages from the booklet for the boys to work on and have decided that, if they offer an activity booklet for the Advent and Lenten Adventures, I will buy one for each child. Too much printer ink.... We started listening to the CD in the car and the kids are really enjoying the songs. My personal favorite is "Prayer Song" and the boys love "Be A Saint".
To make it more like "VBS", I prepared file folders for the boys work and I placed all of the copies neatly inside. I also made each of the boys a little "gift bag" from a paper bag and some scrapbook paper. Inside is the "extra" materials for the week, a brand new pack of crayons, and a couple pieces of candy. I have all of our recipe items together in the cupboard and I have all of our craft materials together in the cabinet. I will probably put them on the counter tonight so that they are ready for us when we begin!
