Book Review: The Anniversary Waltz

Sometimes romance books can be predictable.. secular romance is often full of trashy love scenes and lust, making the Christian reader want to throw it down and burn it on the spot. Christian romance is usually less Christian and more religion, making the not-so-Christian person chalk it up to just another sermon that they tune out. Darrel Nelson transforms Christian romance into something that everyone can enjoy, whether they are religious or  not. What this book lacks in Bible verses, it makes up for in true Christian love and romance.

"The Anniversary Waltz" begins at the Carlson's 60th anniversary. They are celebrating with thier now-yearly anniversary waltz. Soon the story of how they fell in love begins...

Adam went away in the military during WWII to fight for four years. When he returned, life was not the same as when he left. While dealing with the culture shock of coming back home, Adam meets Elizabeth. She is going steady with Nathan, Adam's long time rival. After a twisting turn of events, Adam ends up with the girl. The story goes on to tell of how Adam began repairing the damage that was done in his family while he was away and then adds another plot twist that I will not reveal. In the end, we know that Adam and Elizabeth eventually end up married for over 60 years.

I could not set this book down! The author, Darrel Nelson, has crafted a classic romance novel that will never go out of style. "The Anniversary Waltz" is well-written with engaging characters and an original, unpredictable plot. I laughed and cried while reading this book, and to me, that is a sign of a good book. It pulls the reader in and never lets go. The characters are all people that we know and we even see ourselves in them. We root for the good guy and yell at the bad guy. I'm telling you, buy this book- it is a classic!

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review. The Anniversary Waltz: A novel
