Book Review: John Paul II: The Great Mercy Pope

“John Paul II: The Great Mercy Pope Beatification Edition “ by chronicles the message of Divine Mercy that the late Pope john Paul II was trying to share with the world during his life. The book includes excerpts from Blessed John Paul II’s beatification and many encyclicals and letters he wrote during his time as Pope. There are five parts to the book, each including several short chapters. There are also many documents located in the Appendix of the book. Lastly, there are 12 pages of photographs at the end of the book.

This book was not what I was expecting. I am a fairly new Catholic and I don’t know much about Blessed John Paul II. I was expecting this book to be more of a story of Blessed John Paul II’s life focusing on the Divine Mercy message. Instead, this book pulls out excerpts from writings and homilies and things that Blessed John Paul II said about Divine Mercy. I believe this would be a wonderful book for someone who is already quite familiar with John Paul II’s life. I must also warn readers that this is a very complex book and I recommend that it be read over a long period of time.

This review was written as part of the Catholic book reviewer program from The Catholic Company. Visit The Catholic Company to find more information on John Paul II - The Great Mercy Pope. They are also a great source for a baptism gifts or first communion gifts.
